The Big Pack Demo Day, held on October 28th, was an exciting event for Northern Cape farmers, offering them a firsthand look at the latest in high-density baling technology. Farmers had the opportunity to witness the remarkable capabilities of the large square balers, which stand out in the industry for their efficiency, advanced features, and productivity.
The Case IH LB 436 HD series large square baler redefines high-density baling, offering cutting-edge technology tailored to professional producers and contractors. Building on years of expertise from the LB XL series, the LB 436 HD incorporates advanced features that boost efficiency, density, and user-friendliness.
At its core, this baler prioritizes capacity and density. The LB 436 HD delivers 22% greater bale density than its predecessor, the LB 434 XL, achieved through a 16% longer bale chamber and 50% more plunger force. It maintains impressive output with a bale size of 120 x 90 cm (47.2 x 35.4 inches) and a minimum PTO power requirement of 160 hp. Its pick-up width measures 2.23 meters flare-to-flare, ensuring precise crop gathering. Also new to the pick-up are the poly-plastic pick-up guards eliminating pick-up guard bending. Equipped with 26.5-inch tires, the LB 436 HD minimizes ground pressure for smooth operation and reduces soil impact.
The LB 436 HD’s technological innovations are at the forefront of its design. The patented TwinePro twin-knot technology eliminates offcuts, enhancing forage quality and reducing waste. It also increases knot strength by 30%, but the baler retains its flexibility for twine types without explicitly reducing costs as initially claimed. The pre-compression chamber compacts material into stable flakes before transferring it to the main chamber, ensuring a consistent bale shape. Additionally, the baler is ISOBUS-compatible, allowing seamless integration with precision farming systems for enhanced control and automation.

One of the LB 436 HD’s standout features is its advanced compression system. The newly reinforced chamber, along with seven double-acting cylinders, generates the high compression necessary for uniform and dense bales, handling various crop types with ease.
User convenience and minimal maintenance requirements are central to the LB 436 HD’s design. The short drawbar enhances the visibility of the pick-up area, and the tiltable, dustproof twine box allows for easy access during maintenance. Additionally, bright LED work lights facilitate operation in low-light conditions, while an automatic lubrication system minimizes downtime, enabling extended operation without frequent stops for servicing. The baler is also equipped with hydraulic cylinders on the axles enabling you to lower or raise the baler when routing your twine through your needles or loading twine into the twine boxes.
With its dual-axle hydraulic suspension, the LB 436 HD is also highly maneuverable and gentle on the ground. The tandem chassis, equipped with oversized 26.5” tires, minimizes soil impact and keeps the machine’s overall width just under 3 meters, making it road-friendly.
The Case IH LB 436 HD Series sets a new benchmark in high-density baling. Its impressive capacity, innovative technology, and thoughtful design make it a reliable solution for producers and farmers looking to maximize productivity while reducing operational costs.
