Grey College in Bloemfontein, which spans an area of 60 hectares, is one of South Africa's most respected schools. Of this, 21 hectares are dedicated to fields that need to be regularly mowed, while the rest consists of school buildings, paved areas, and gardens. With 56 staff members responsible for maintaining this vast area, it is crucial to have the right tools to get the job done efficiently. Husqvarna's range of products has quickly become indispensable in this task, with their versatility and reliability offering great advantages.
One of the smartest decisions Grey College made was not to purchase traditional lawn mowers to maintain their fields. Since lawn mowers are seasonal and stand idle in a shed for six months of the year, the school instead opted to invest in a Husqvarna P525D. This multi-purpose machine can use 8 different attachments of which Grey College uses 4: a lawnmower, broom, leaf blower, and scarifier. By using this machine, the school can benefit from its versatility all year round. This versatile machine provides the ideal solution for the school's maintenance needs, not only reducing working time but also drastically cutting labour costs.

The Husqvarna P525D has had a remarkable impact on the maintenance of Grey College's paved areas and roads. Previously, it would take 6-7 staff members a full week to clean all the paved areas and roads with blowers. Now, with the P525D, one person can complete the same task in just one day, bringing a dramatic improvement in productivity and labour costs.
Husqvarna's battery-powered pole pruner 530iPT5 is another indispensable addition to the school’s equipment. This pruner works for two hours on a single battery, and with a set of two batteries, workers can continue working all morning. This pruner is particularly quiet, meaning hearing protection is unnecessary, and since it runs on batteries instead of petrol, there is no risk of fuel theft. The rapid charging time of the batteries ensures that the pruning process runs smoothly, with no interruptions during the workday, making the pruning process seamless and convenient. Although using chain oil is crucial for maintaining and enhancing the performance of your battery-powered chainsaw.

Grey College also makes use of Husqvarna's 540iXP chainsaw, which is essential for maintaining trees on the grounds. This chainsaw is extremely reliable for trimming branches and other tree work, ensuring that the trees are well-maintained and safe.
Backpack blowers like the 580BTS and the 525BX handheld blower from Husqvarna are also frequently used on the school grounds. These blowers, ideal for use in the agricultural sector for cleaning combines, are equally effective in keeping the school's roads and paved areas clean. The battery range blowers ensure quiet operation, meaning hearing protection is unnecessary, and the adjustable speed options make it easy to adapt the equipment to specific tasks.

Grey College also uses five petrol-powered lawn mowers to maintain the grass around the teachers' houses, ensuring that every area of the school grounds remains in top condition.
By using Husqvarna's products, Grey College has become a model of how modern equipment can efficiently and economically maintain a large area. The school's decision to invest in versatile, reliable tools ensures that their grounds remain neat, clean, and well-maintained throughout the year.
