At Nampo Alfa 2024, Kokama, a well-established name in agricultural equipment, showcased their impressive range of products. This family business, which has been helping farmers for 27 years, has deep roots in Koster, North West. It was founded by the current owners' parents, who took over the business from them. Today, Kokama is a key player in the development of feed throughs, mixers, feed handling and processing and other agricultural products making a name not only in the South African market but also embracing new challenges in the mining sector, particularly in South Africa and abroad.

Feed Plants and Mixers: Customizable Solutions
One of the highlights of Kokama's offerings is their feed plants, which are adaptable and modular.
At Nampo Alfa, they showcased a complete feed handling system that ranges from a silo component to a mixing unit. The system includes a 3-ton silo that discharges feed with an auger, but customers can choose to replace this with a conveyor belt or scale system to measure exact quantities of feed.
The mixer on display was the MX KO 750, capable of handling half ton of feed per mix. This mixer is suitable for feed production of approximately 500 kg per batch and can mix between one to two tons of feed per hour, depending on feed process . It takes about 15 minutes to complete a cycle. For larger operations, Kokama also offers a 1-ton mixer which means 1 ton per batch and between 3 to 4 tons per hour.
What sets these mixers apart is the use of paddle mixers, which prevent feed from clumping, especially when grass or wetter feeds are used. This is a clear improvement over traditional "ribbon" mixing systems, which often cause feed to tangle and the difference in resistance and power consumption to do the same job.
Kokama also offers a smaller 250-liter mixer for farmers who need to mix smaller quantities of feed, such as vitamin supplements for animals. This mixer can process up to 600 kilograms per hour and is available in various options, including single-phase and three-phase drive systems. Because of the compact design it also performs well to be used as seed coater.

Cattle, Sheep, and Lamb Feed Troughs
To reduce transport costs, Kokama designed these troughs to be disassembled and reassembled. This means more troughs can be loaded onto a single truck, significantly reducing costs. For example, where a single fixed/welded unit could only fit three troughs on a truck, up to ten Kokama modular troughs can now be loaded. Apart from this you can now replace worn parts on the feeder and don’t need to cut and grind to fix the old one.
The cattle feed trough can hold up to 2 tons of feed and is adjustable to accommodate different types of feed. The sheep and lamb feed troughs follow the same principle, with adjustable flaps to control the amount of feed released, depending on the type of feed in the bin (pellets, meal or grass).

Bale Rings and Other Products
Kokama is also has other equipment such as bale rings, planter wheels and replacement veins for spreaders. They manufacture bale rings ranging in size from 1.2 meters to 1.8 meters, made from various materials like round tubing and flat steel. The planter wheels they offer come in different colors to match with well-known agricultural implements like John Deere and Massey Ferguson. The veins are made from stainless steel and come with a liner which give the liner an extra season or two depending on hectares being spread.

Collaboration with Customers
Kokama's focus on customer services is evident. They work closely with farmers to ensure that the equipment they offer is tailor made to the farmer's specific needs. Whether it's for large or small quantities of feed, Kokama can provide a solution.
