The start of construction in May 2022 was the starting shot for the new painting centre at the Schwandorf site. On an area of 12,000 m2, HORSCH builds a hall with state-of-the-art coating technology for liquid and powder coatings to meet the capacity requirements of the past years and to position the company for the future.
In January 2023, the construction of the liquid and powder coating plant started. The liquid coating plant started operation in June 2023, and the powder coating plant in September 2023. Currently, the plants are still in the run-up stage. The maximum capacity amounts to about 575,000 m² of painted material per year which corresponds to approx. 20,000 t. Components with a length of up to 9 m, a width of up to 2.3 m, a height of 3 m and a total weight of 3 t can be painted in the new plant. Fully automatic, flexible conveyor systems ensure that the components precisely reach their destinations.
Energy efficiency and sustainability play a major role in the realisation of this project. The powder coating process which accounts for 80% of the coating tasks is a particularly environmentally friendly process that is completely solvent-free. The heat recovery systems (powder incinerators, compressors) also contribute to energy efficiency. The objective for the future is to use renewable energies for the energy supply. Pre-treatment is a closed-circuit process. The wastewater that is produced is not fed into the public network but recycled independently.
The new painting centre will create 75 new jobs at the Schwandorf site and will include a state-of-the-art training facility for the process mechanic for coating technology apprentices. The building also includes flexible and ergonomic workstations as well as modern welfare facilities for the employees.
With about 30 million euros, the painting centre is one of the largest investments at the Schwandorf site. HORSCH prepares for the future with state-of-the-art technology, an energy-efficient orientation and high capacities.
